Al; Your Lucky Day

Very good short film on Vimeo about a winning lottery ticket.

Your Lucky Day from Dan on Vimeo.

Playing with a new camera; working on something for a new project. Just thought this photo might make you smile...

20; Lily In Progress

Busy day today, so here's a preview of an illustration for an article about Lily Allen and Philosophy. Still very much in the planning stages, but you can see where it might be going...

19; Elephants

Why don't you ever see elephants hiding in trees?

Because they're so good at it.

18; Global Smoking

Illustration I did for an article about global warming and the problem of people who deny its existence. Click on the image for a larger version.

17; My Little Sony

For the last couple of days I've been playing with various toys and a friend's digital camera. This is the result:

My Little Sony from Anthony Lewis on Vimeo.

If it's not obvious, it's a parody of a series of adverts. Everything is better in miniature:
Cadbury: Gorilla, Eyebrows, Airport Race.
French Connection: The Man
Skoda: Car Cake
Innocent Smoothies: Rabbit
And the running theme: Sony Bravia: Bouncy Balls

I've chosen these ads purely because they are all very recognisable, memorable and parody-able, and made by Fallon. As I mentioned the other day, I went to a talk by a couple of guys from fallon the other day, and that's when I thought of making this video. It was mostly an easy way of helping to choose which ads to reference, and it really does show how high profile, entertaining & varied one agency's work can be.

Probably more on this tomorrow, and I'll hopefully add a higher quality version at some point (although it was all taken on a fairly ordinary digital still camera, so the quality will never be great).

Also, thankyou Rachel for baking, giving me the camera and collecting up the balls.

#16,o; Monkey + Car + Lighting = Sunday evening

Wazzup?

At the moment I'm spending most of my time (when I'm not working) wrestling with making a little video just for funsies and to learn the very basics of video editing. It's not ready yet, but here's a still from it, just as a sort of teaser:

Beads, monkey, balls. Any guesses? Anyway, it's bags of fun so far, and I like learning new stuff, so it's great.

What have I found out and about on the internet that I like? Try this photo. Just including it here 'cos its fuckin' awesome:

Also, check out the DoodleCar. Again, no meaning or substance to me mentioning it. I don't have any groundbreaking opinion on it, or criticism. I just like it. It's fun, and that's enough for me.

#15,j; Batman

I saw this collection of the "best Batman panels" ever. This is my fave:

It has reminded me that I still haven't finished this: Last summer I started a large 3 panel drawing/painting to replace an even older painting that is on my bedroom wall. Here it is as it is and has been for the last year. This summer, I'll finish it off. Woman on left, then superman (in pencil atm, so probably not visible), Batman, supergirl, hulk: Can't remember where the images came from now - I assume some are copied from books, some are original. Anyway, one day I'll finish it:

#14,j; Road signs just for me, The Man, and underwater photography

14:
I like it when the council are considerate, and make special signs for areas that I like to park in, so that everyone knows that it's ok for me to not have a permit. Everyone else, if you park, leave and try to come back within 2 hours without a permit, I will tell on you.

j:
Two things today.
I went to a talk from a couple guys from fallon the other day. It was great. I was nosing around their website today and found this french connection ad:

I'm putting it here because I think it's great. Filmed brilliantly, entertaining, and gets across a clear message about the brand. Big fan.

These photos are just quite cool:

#14; bike painting

Still in the library from 8am to 11pm at the moment, so an old photo for today.

Bought a kids' bike at a car boot sale for a fiver and painted it last summer. It was originally a bit beat up, and a black colour. I've lost the original photo unfortunately, but here is how it ended up - simple, but I thought it was quite nice.
Sold it for £20 to someone on Gumtree - if I did 1 million of these I'd be pretty rich.

#10; Fire

The descriptions didn't match the illustrations before. Now they do.

Usual Disclaimer: In a super-mad rush today so excuse the even-worse-than-usual sloppiness.

#8; smiles all round

Trying to find ways to perk up essays. Smiley face makes bird neurology a bit more digestible.
(please ignore the actual words - this isn't here so you can critique an essay I wrote last year!)

#5; Do Not Take If...

This is the packet that yesterday's pills came out of. I'm starting to think I shouldn't trust these tablets...

#4; Magic Pills

These came out of my pack of Nurofen. I'm not sure I trust them.

#3; Dance With Care

There should be more dancing in the streets.

Quick disclaimer: This blog is much more about ideas than execution; Each day I'm going to spend no more than 30 minutes on any of the images, so forgive the imperfections in the photoshopping, and go and dance, instead.

#2; Fireman Sam

Oxford Fire Service is undergoing a rebranding in response to the fall in numbers of fires. A good day for cats everywhere.
